Podia vs LearnWorlds: Which Course Platform Suits How You Teach?

Buyer evidence matrix for comparing Podia and LearnWorlds: define the same four requirement groups, document each supplier column, run the same buyer test, then pass, pause or exclude each requirement using recorded evidence.
Compare evidence on the same job. The worksheet keeps supplier-documented positions separate from buyer observation, evidence and decision fields reserved for your own review. Define mandatory requirements, verify the minimum suitable plan, run the same workflow with dummy data, and pause any decision with a critical unknown. This visual does not rank either platform.

Documentation checked 14 to 23 September 2026. Based on public supplier documentation, not hands-on product testing.

When people compare Podia vs LearnWorlds, they usually start with the same checklist. Quizzes? Both have them. Certificates? Both have them. Community? Both. Email? Both, in some form.

And then they're stuck, because on paper the two look surprisingly similar.

Here's the shortcut. Quizzes and certificates won't decide this for you. The real split between Podia and LearnWorlds sits in three places: whether a tutor needs to mark and give feedback on work, how tightly you need to control what your staff can see, and how the fees behave when your products are cheap versus expensive.

Once you know where you stand on those three, the right platform usually becomes obvious. Let's go through them.

A note on evidence: this is based on official documentation, not on using either platform. Podia's prices and the plan gates here were checked on 23 September 2026. LearnWorlds' public cards omit currency symbols, but official pricing structured data identifies USD and the comparison grid labels the Starter fee $5/enrollment, checked 14 October 2026. Figures below describe that documented public USD display, not a verified regional checkout quote. Confirm checkout currency, tax and the total before paying.

Once you've narrowed it down, our course platform cost calculator lets you compare the two with prices you enter yourself.

Why Quizzes and Certificates Won't Settle Podia vs LearnWorlds

It's common to read that Podia "doesn't do quizzes" or "doesn't do certificates". That's not accurate.

Podia's official quiz guidance documents multiple-choice questions, passing scores and retakes. Its certificate article describes personalised completion certificates after a learner completes all lessons, when certificates are enabled.

LearnWorlds documents both too, with more variety: completion certificates, knowledge certificates, graded assessments and more question types.

So the real question isn't "does it have quizzes?" It's "what kind of quizzing do I actually need?"

  • A quick knowledge check at the end of a module? Both can likely do it.
  • A gate that stops learners moving on until they pass? Test it on both.
  • An essay or a recorded answer that a human marks and comments on? Now the platforms start to separate.

The Real Divider: Does a Human Need to Mark the Work?

This is the biggest difference between the two, and it's the one to think hardest about.

LearnWorlds documents a Review Center where open-ended responses can be graded manually. Tutors can give a score plus written, file, audio or video feedback.

But plan level matters:

  • File assignments need Pro Trainer or higher.
  • Recorded audio or video answers inside an assessment need Learning Center or higher.

For Podia, the sources we reviewed confirm quizzes but don't establish a tutor-marking workflow. That doesn't mean it's impossible. It means you should ask Podia to show it to you, or mark it as an open question.

LearnWorlds supports tutor review and feedback on submitted work .

Here's a simple way to tell which camp you're in. Picture your best student finishing your programme. Did a person read or watch something they made and respond to it? If yes, you need a marking workflow, and LearnWorlds is the documented route. If no, and it's all self-paced, Podia's simpler setup may be all you need.

Staff Access: "One Assistant" and "One Role" Aren't the Same Thing

Podia's first assistant arrives on Shaker. Podia's help page says assistants have full access to products, emails, community features and site settings, with no access to billing, plan changes or cancellation.

That's fine for a trusted VA who runs everything with you. It's less fine if you want:

  • a freelancer to edit pages without seeing your finances or email list
  • a tutor to grade work without changing your website
  • a community manager who can't see your sales data

LearnWorlds documents both predefined and custom permission roles. Assigning predefined restricted roles and creating custom roles are both on Learning Center or higher. Pro Trainer lists five admin or instructor accounts, but that's not the same as the detailed permission model.

The Fee Insight Most Comparisons Miss: Percentage vs Per-Enrolment

This is the part that genuinely changes how you should price your products.

Podia Mover takes 5% of each sale. LearnWorlds' official public grid shows USD 5 per paid enrolment; confirm the regional checkout currency and applicable terms.

They sound similar. They behave completely differently.

  • A percentage fee grows with your price. On a 500 course, 5% is 25. On a 20 mini-course, 5% is 1.
  • A flat per-enrolment fee stays the same whatever you charge. On a 500 course, a fee of 5 is just 1%. On a 20 mini-course, the same 5 is 25%.

So if you sell lots of cheap, low-ticket products, a flat fee per enrolment hurts more. If you sell fewer, premium products, a percentage fee hurts more.

Neither entry plan is "cheaper" in general. It depends on your product mix. Also check what LearnWorlds counts as a paid enrolment before you model bundles, subscriptions or repeat purchases.

And remember: on both platforms, the fee disappears on the next plan up. Podia Shaker has no Podia transaction fee, and LearnWorlds Pro Trainer and Learning Center showed no LearnWorlds enrolment fee.

Podia's own break-even, in one line

For Podia on monthly billing, Shaker costs USD 50 more than Mover. Five per cent of USD 1,000 is USD 50. So if both plans fit, Shaker is cheaper above USD 1,000 a month in sales.

Podia Mover vs Shaker, hypothetical, plan only
Monthly salesMoverShaker
USD 500USD 74USD 99
USD 1,000USD 99USD 99
USD 2,000USD 149USD 99

Our Podia pricing guide shows how your email list size moves that line.

For LearnWorlds, compare Starter's per-enrolment fee against the subscription gap in your own currency and billing mode. Enrolment count, not revenue, drives that fee.

Community and Email: Price Your Real Volume, Not the Feature

Podia publishes clear community limits: 25, 100 or unlimited spaces. Its included email allowances are 100, 500 or 1,000 subscribers, with larger allowances costing extra.

LearnWorlds documents collections, spaces and course discussions. Its current grid marks Starter as not including mass email credits, with 2,000 a month on Pro Trainer, 5,000 on Learning Center and 10,000 on Corporate, checked 14 October 2026. These are mass-email credits, not a quota for every transactional message. Extra credits are an add-on.

Here's what to model for both:

  • number of community spaces you'll actually run
  • moderation needs
  • monthly marketing emails
  • automatic emails to learners (welcome, reminders, completion)
  • what happens when you go over the allowance

A feature being "included" doesn't mean it's big enough for you.

Migrating to Podia or LearnWorlds: Budget for the Exceptions

Podia's "free migration" covers up to 50 products on Mover and 150 on Shaker and Earthquaker. But active paying subscriptions are explicitly excluded. Every paying member will need to sign up again. Podia's pricing page says to request a refund within 72 hours of the most recent payment; it does not offer partial annual refunds. Its migration help says no portion of the plan payment can be refunded once migration work begins, with no exceptions. Confirm this before authorising the work.

LearnWorlds' general guide says that if you migrate yourself, you'll need to rebuild pages and content. Its in-house migration service is paid. Learning Center customers and above are directed to their Customer Success Manager. We couldn't find a published fee.

Neither statement promises that every field, link, completion record or automation will transfer.

Before you sign anything annual, ask for a written migration scope covering:

  • content types and question banks
  • learner progress and certificates
  • past invoices and recurring payments
  • community memberships
  • email consent
  • automations, redirects and rollback

How to Choose Between Podia and LearnWorlds in Five Steps

  1. Write your must-haves as pass or fail. Use our course platform requirements checklist.
  2. Fill in the buyer comparison matrix. Keep your own observations blank until you've tested.
  3. Find the lowest plan on each platform that supports your whole workflow. One feature on a cheap plan isn't enough if another step needs a higher one.
  4. Add up subscription, platform fees, processing, VAT, currency, email add-ons and migration work as separate lines.
  5. Use trials to run one real course path with dummy data: enrol, learn, submit, mark, give feedback, issue a certificate, check reporting, test staff access, cancel.

The Verdict, Depending on How You Run Your Business

Podia is the clearer shortlist if:

  • you're a small, creator-led business
  • you want course, site, community and email tools in one place
  • your list and spaces fit within Podia's limits
  • you're comfortable with assistants having broad access
  • most of your learning is self-paced

LearnWorlds is the clearer shortlist if:

  • tutors need to review and comment on learner work
  • you need file, audio or video submissions
  • you need custom certificate templates
  • staff need tightly limited permissions
  • the plan that unlocks those features fits your budget

Keep both in the running if:

  • your course is mostly self-paced
  • your deciding factors are checkout, email volume, community feel or migration quality

That's a more useful answer than declaring one "winner". The question that actually decides it is: which is the cheapest plan that supports the way you teach, at a total cost you're happy with?
